New VAT rate in South Africa: No impact on Rhulani's guests

  • March 01, 2018 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

As of 1 April 2018, the Value Added Tax (VAT) will increase in South Africa by one percentage point from 14% to 15%. What does this mean for your existing or future bookings with Rhulani Safari Lodge? Good News: It means nothing to you. Rhulani will absorb the difference.

On 21 February, during the 2018 budget speech, South African Minister Malusi Gigaba has announced that effective from 1 April 2018 the VAT (Value Added Tax) rate will be increased by one percentage point from 14% to 15%. This means that from this date on all our bills the new VAT rate of 15% will be applied.

The VAT is especially applied to the Accommodation Rate of Rhulani Safari Lodge. As the tariffs we have given you are VAT inclusive, what does this mean going forward?

We are pleased to inform you that Rhulani Safari Lodge will absorb this increase in in our books. This means:

  • The rates for all existing bookings with check-in after April 1, 2018 remain unchanged.
  • We will honor the tariffs for 2018 and 2019 already communicated to you and they will remain unchanged.
  • On all invoices issued from 1 April 2018, the new VAT rate of 15% (instead of 14%) will appear, whereby the booking value "net of VAT" will be slightly smaller than what it was before.

While this approach will have a negative impact on Rhulani's finances, we give an even higher value to the satisfaction of our customers and business partners, as well as to our stable, planable business relationship without any surprise during the year. We hope that we fulfill your expectations.

Thank you very much for taking note . May I ask you in case of any doubt or question to contact our front of house by calling us on +27 (0)82 907 9628 or emailing reservations@rhulani.com.
