Rhulani Insights 051 - A new room deck

  • August 21, 2016 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of ‪Rhulani Safari Lodge‬.

The permanent cleaning, care and maintainance of the wooden outdoor deck is one of the most important tasks of a safari lodge. Big differences in temperature, sunlight, dryness in winter and sometimes rain in the summer, are a big burden on the natural materials.

Thanks to the good care, our guests will enjoy a beautiful outdoor deck in their room, and on the other hand, we can extend the life of the deck significantly and thus save costs. Nevertheless, the life of the deck is limited, so that approximately every ten to twelve years, the deck has to be completely replaced, sometimes together with the supporting structure which carries the deck, and where the moisture or ants gnaw on the wood.

“When I see a slippery slope, my instinct is to build a terrace.” – John McCarthy

In today's episode we see a guest’s chalet where the old deck has just been removed, and we learn more on the subject talking to our supplier Kevin.

Stay tuned for next episode on Sunday 4 September 2016 when we have a look at our staff quarters.
