So, time for sundowners. Get out of the vehicle and stretch your legs while the ranger sets up the "bush bar" with drinks in a beautiful spot out here in nature. But have you ever wondered whether a wild animal might come by? Listen to Rhulani's ranger Thato about what he recently experienced with his guests and watch his video!
And the story sounds like this:
"We left for afternoon drive and after about thirty minutes we heard of lions sleeping at Shaun’s track and we decided to go see them.
On our way there guides said that they were starting to move and upon getting there we found three females and one male which was odd as the females were all four the previous night but I didn’t think much of it.
We followed them for a while until they decided to cut north into a sickle bush block and we decided not to follow.
Soon as we left them another guide said he has come across the other male not far from us so we went the opposite direction and stopped for a quick drink stop as the sun was setting.
The male that was found started contact calling and a lion responded not far from us and as we started looking around jamala female – the lioness which was missing - was about fifty meters from us and approaching.
We moved close to the vehicle and she stopped at about 20 meters and started pacing up and down as she was not sure about us. We climbed into the vehicle to let her pass and we moved a bit closer to her and she passed us heading straight for our half packed table which had bacon and biltong. She nearly swiped everything down when I shouted her name loud and moved the car closer to the table.
She moved away calling immediately as she moved away from the table, probably complaining to other lions of how we didn’t want to share biltong with her :-)."
