We have reported a lot this year about Madikwe’s cheetah project. We have talked about successes, hopes, joys, but also many setbacks. What is the situation now? And in particular: what are the prospects to introduce cheetah females into the reserve next year and have the possibility of reproduction?

Sometimes it happens that our guests have a “once in a lifetime experience”. This is helped by a beautiful wildlife in Madikwe, the knowledge of our ranger, the ability to wait with patience, and sometimes a bit of luck. In the night of Thursday, October 9, Madikwe was confronted with one of the most dangerous realities. A bushfire raged for hours and burnt down 448 hectares in the north-west corner of the reserve. Thanks to an incredible team spirit the fire was finally extinguished and a far greater damage was prevented.

New images of art are a key element of the recent renovations at Rhulani and part of the concept “RhulaniNEXT”. We met the famous artist Sharon Boonzaier who manufactured the new artwork, perfectly matching our new design.

From 25 to 27 August the “Africa Academy” took place in Lausanne, Zurich (Switzerland) and Vienna (Austria). Rhulani Safari Lodge was an exhibitor at all three locations.

Nicky Mazzuchetti is the first female field guide at Rhulani. Her passion, qualification and experience make her an important asset for us in an environment, which has long been considered a male domain.

After the sad death of two cheetah females in Madikwe we might hear soon positive news about this project again.

A little more than two weeks ago, nine small wild dogs were born in Madikwe. A short, touching encounter with the animal that has become the symbol of the reserve.
