We would have loved to see this Red-crested Korhaan fly into the air and do his typical, spectacular free fall. But we wait in vain. It stays on the ground and looks for food such as seeds and small insects.

Did you know that there can be a car breakdown on safaris? Rhulani’s ranger Willem shows us a nice sighting with two lionesses today, where another safari vehicle no longer started, and Willem was helpful and quickly towed the defective vehicle with a rope. You see, everybody helps each other in the bush!

When the sun disappears over the horizon, we are no longer allowed to visit the cheetahs and shine a spotlight on them. This evening we caught and observed the two Cheetah brothers with the very last rays of sunshine. Wonderful light and the two cats very relaxed.

Ranger Willem had a tricky task to solve. At first this bull elephant was standing on the road, which he couldn’t get past, and then he even had to put the car in reverse to give the bull the space it needed. But everything went well. Lucky again.

Did you know that small cats sometimes catch birds? “Always expect the unexpected,” says our ranger Alasdair today, and he tells us about a bunch of Lilac-breasted Roller feathers he found, and we start to investigate what might have happened here.

These two different animals are often seen together, in fact they are actually good buddies: the Blu Wildebeest and the Zebra. Here we find the two of them taking a break.

Unlike in a zoo, where births are known and observed, in a large wildlife reserve like Madikwe, newcomers just appear, and we sit our vehicle and marvel. This story is about cheetahs and leopards. But let’s tell Alasdair about it.

A clan of hyenas has made some good prey out here. It appears they have killed a Warthog. Now the predators are playing around with the skull. Great sighting ofv the Spotted Hyenas!

We drive through the park at night and use the spotlight to look for new wildlife sightings. There we find a nest in the middle of the dry branches, where three little chicks are well hidden, but also very lively. What type of bird is this? I don’t know, maybe you know?

The showdown between two male kudus, whether in a game or in real combat, is a tricky business. The two antelopes can not only sustain life-threatening injuries due to their very long horns, they can also become so entangled that they can no longer get away from each other. Have a look!
