Finding leopard Munye: Ralf's perfect start at Rhulani

  • March 05, 2020 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Ralf Niezen had just started to work at Rhulani as a Field Guide and set out to show our guests the beauties of the Madikwe reserve for the first time. The experienced and highly qualified ranger had a good sense and a bit of luck. A leopard came to meet him on the road.

A perfect start for Ralf in Rhulani's Ranger Team

First of all we would like to warmly welcome Ralf to our Rhulani team and wish him a fulfilling and happy time with us!

As Ralf had previously worked in Madikwe, he knows the park very well, so that he was able to take our guests on the safaris from day one.  And he already tells us about a unique story:

“Leopard Munye was away for about three weeks, but yesterday he suddenly popped up somewhere in the north, somebody told us. Me and Alasdair immediately went there, looked for him, followed the tracks but we couldn’t find him.

But then, when I was close to the Western airstrip, he suddenly appeared. Munye was actually just walking on the road towards me. We saw him for about an hour, and then he disappeared again. This was awesome!”

Munye is a wonderful but moody leopard that we know is not afraid of vehicles and shows up from time to time. Ralf took amazing photos and had a perfect first day at Rhulani.
