Ralf discovers honeymoon couple on foot

  • November 01, 2020 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

It was a bit south of Inkwe-Pan area, so not that far from Rhulani Safari Lodge. "I went on foot this afternoon and tracked them down," says Ralf after he had found tracks of lions here. What the experienced and passionate ranger found a little later was a bif surprise for him.

"I followed the tracks through the bush for about half an hour," says Ralf. "I could see that it was a male and a female. So it was clear to me that they were on honeymoon.”

Ralf stopped every now and then, waited, tried to be quiet, he listened to the noises, but for a while he couldn't find the two honeymooners. But they definitely were here!

But then, only about 20 meters away from Ralf. There they were. "Amazingly, they started mating.” It was the impressive male lion, Kwandwe, who is quite well known in our region, and his new wife Boipelo. “I've never had this experience on foot in my life!”

Ralf had his camera, but at that moment he was too excited. He says: "I still have photos of the two lions for you”.
