Rhulani Insights 135 - Building a hide at the waterhole

  • February 16, 2020 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

There is a waterhole for the animals about 50 meters in front of our lounge. Now we have a plan to build an underground "hide" to watch the animals from only a few meters away. Here's a look at the construction work.

This hide will become a comfortably furnished lounge, which is reached through an underground tunnel and where animal lovers can spend pleasant and exciting moments. Since the animals will neither see nor smell how close we are, this increases the possibility of undisturbed animal observation in our lodge.

Rolf and Sean are having a look the construction work today, which will be completed by the time you watch this video. Isn’t it impressive to see how the excavation for the tunnel and the removal of the hard dolomite stones are going on?

“What was once underground is now coming to the surface.” – Gavin Bryars, English Composer

Stay tuned for the next episode on Sunday 1 March 2020 when Rolf walks through the future tunnel to reach the hide.
