Rhulani Insights 137 – The electric wire around the camp

  • March 15, 2020 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

Although Rhulani’s guests are in a so-called “unfenced camp”, there is an electrical wire that runs around the entire lodge and should at least protect us from the largest animals such as elephants. We look at this with Riaan today.

At the control box, we see that this wire has a voltage of up to 15,000 volts. In most cases, this is enough so that an elephant does not traverse our lodge and causes damage on his walk through the bush in search of water.

Today Riaan explains more about the electric fence and the general security at Rhulani, which is our top priority.

“I fell off a bridge when I was, like, 17 years old and got electrocuted by 15,000 volts of electricity - fell 30 feet.” – Vic Mensa, American Musician

Stay tuned for the next episode on Sunday 29 March 2020 when we see the cheetah brothers passing and calling.
