Rhulani Insights 146 – Rhinos and zebras at the pan

  • July 19, 2020 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

In today's blog we experience an indescribably beautiful animal sighting at the pan, where a few white rhinos and zebras are found in the light of the evening sun. The reason for the animals' stay here does not seem to be the water, as Rhulani's head ranger Sean explains.

The rhinos and the zebras get along well, although here, it seems, the rhinos defend their good place near the water and keep the zebras away.

We observe a strange behavior of the rhinos. They eat the earth from the ground, which apparently gives them the necessary nutrians. Sean explains more about this behavior known as "Geophage".
