Rhulani Insights 183 – A water dam in winter time

  • September 25, 2022 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

We are currently at the end of winter. This means there is no rainwater and the natural dams are slowly but surely drying up completely. Let's visit a dried-up dam today with Ranger Willem and talk about how the animals still get their water.

Not a single drop of rain for months. So it goes without saying that many natural water sources dry up completely and are only refilled when summer and the rainy season arrives.

Pretty impressive to walk around on the "moon landscape" of a dried up dam in the winter season. But Madikwe still cares about the animals and provides water points at various places in the reserve, which are filled by pumps. Incidentally, we also have our own waterhole at Rhulani Safari Lodge.
