Rhulani Minute Safari - Crimson-breasted Shrike & Stick Insect
Today we observe something that we really don't get to see very often on safari. Luckily, our ranger Alasdair had his camera with him. A bright red bird, a so-called "Crimson-breasted Shrike", has discovered a huge stick insect in the bushes and is now trying to eat it.
Alasdair was delighted: “This was looking like a massive, massive stick insect, it was almost the size of the bird!”
The brightly colored Crimson-breasted Shrike is a very conspicuous bird and we often see it at our lodge. However, it is very nimble and likes to hide under cover of the bushes, making it difficult to get a good picture.
Alasdair says: “The bird just goes and goes and picks and picks to get it, it was almost like a fight between the two.”
