Giving back to our community: Supporting Suping Primary School

At Rhulani Safari Lodge, we believe that responsible tourism goes beyond protecting the incredible wildlife and natural environment that surround us. It also means being part of the local community, building meaningful relationships and supporting initiatives that can make a lasting difference. One of our most important community partnerships is with Suping Primary School, located in the local community of Supingstad. Over the years, Rhulani has worked closely with the school and its principal to understand where our support can be most useful and where relatively simple contributions can have a meaningful impact on the daily lives of pupils and teachers.

A few weeks ago, we once again sat down with the school principal to identify the items the school currently needed most. Rather than providing a generic donation, our approach is to work directly with the school to understand its priorities and then focus our support where it is genuinely needed.

Thanks to the generosity of two families who recently stayed at Rhulani, we were able to purchase and deliver a comprehensive list of supplies and equipment to Suping Primary School. The latest contribution included:

• Floor polish and cleaning products
• Paraffin and candles
• Pine gel and Jeyes Fluid
• 200 litres of diesel for the school’s generator
• A laptop
• A video projector

These may appear to be relatively simple necessities, but for a school operating with limited resources, they can make a real difference. From keeping classrooms clean and functioning to providing fuel for essential power and supplying technology for teaching and presentations, each item responds to a practical need identified by the school itself.

Our guests make a difference

This initiative was made possible through the generosity of two families who chose to extend their Rhulani experience beyond the lodge and contribute to the local community.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Gaylen, Mellisha and Angelo Morgan and to Sam, Blanca, Mateo and Leo Wagner. Their combined contributions helped make this latest delivery possible, and we are extremely grateful for their willingness to give back to the community they encountered during their time in Madikwe.

For us, this is one of the most rewarding aspects of welcoming guests from around the world: the opportunity to create connections that reach beyond the boundaries of the lodge and contribute to the communities that are an integral part of our destination.

Supporting Suping Primary School is an important part of Rhulani Safari Lodge’s broader commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism.

As a Travelife Gold certified lodge, we believe that sustainability encompasses much more than environmental responsibility. It also includes the social and economic wellbeing of the communities around us. By working directly with local partners, listening to their needs and involving our guests where appropriate, we aim to ensure that tourism creates benefits that extend beyond the lodge itself.

Our relationship with Suping Primary School is a long-term commitment rather than a one-off initiative. We are proud to continue supporting the school and to work together with its principal to identify meaningful opportunities where Rhulani and our guests can help.
