Rhulani Insights 279 – Elephant dung creme at the end of the bushwalk

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

At the end of an eventful bush walk, we are soon back at our vehicle, but there is another moment of excitement. So much for the peaceful, relaxing stroll through the savanna. This time, it is a nearby herd of elephants with mothers and their calves that visibly put our ranger Ralf on high alert, prompting him to prepare accordingly.

It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.

- David Attenborough, British journalist

Ralf rubs himself with elephant dung to reduce the smell, convinced that the elephants have already picked up our scent and know we're nearby.

After encountering some giraffes and then even a black rhino with a calf (see our recent blogs), we certainly can't complain about a lack of action!

In the end, we successfully complete this adventure, leaving us with many memorable experiences. We hope you enjoyed this series of bushwalk blog posts and that it will inspire you to plan a similar experience for your next safari.

Stay tuned for the next episode on 28 June when we show you how we collect the rainwater at Rhulani.
