Rhulani Insights 282 – Welcome to the elephant spa!
Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.
Madikwe Game Reserve is known for its large elephant population, which has formed into numerous small herds over the years. On sunny, hot days like today, one herd after another arrives at the well-filled Thlou Dam to drink and enjoy themselves.
Having a lot of friends and family around you - that's all a part of wellness.
Yes, we could stay here and watch for hours with our ranger, Alasdair, wouldn't you agree? There's always something going on. One particularly attractive spot is the freshwater spring that feeds the dam, where the best drinking water can be found.
But the water is also a real magnet for these enormous mammals for other reasons. Here they can swim, splash each other, and wallow in the mud – turning Thlou Dam into a veritable elephant spa!
Stay tuned for the next episode on 9 August when we join the dinner preparations in the Kopano Lounge.
