Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.
Out here in the far south of the reserve, we get out of the vehicle and prepare for an exciting bushwalk. Ralf, our guide, takes the rifle and gets ready, explaining a few important rules to us.
At the end of the day, the goals are simple: safety and security.
For a qualified ranger to lead bush walks with our guests, they need special additional training to become a "lead trail" guide. Our ranger, Ralf, has successfully completed all this training and passed all the necessary exams, and today he's ready to take us on a walk.
Let's listen to the briefing before we set off. It seems logical that we should always stay close together and avoid making unnecessary noise so as not to attract the animals' attention.
The most important rule when walking in the bush, however, is: do not run! The animals are usually faster, and Ralf won't be able to help us. Alright, let's get going! More about our experiences on this bush walk will follow in upcoming blog posts.
Stay tuned for the next episode on 19 April, when we will focus on the little things of the African savanna.
