Rhulani Insights 276 – Curious giraffes on a bushwalk

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

Our walk through the savanna continues on tiptoe, and we unexpectedly manage to get quite close to a few giraffes, without them seeming particularly impressed by our presence. The two female giraffes with the two little ones keep a close eye on us, but calmly walk past at a safe distance.

My favourite animal is the koala, but his life would be boring. I would rather be a giraffe so that I could contemplate the beauty of Africa.

- Caterina Murino, Italian actress

We decided to focus on the little things during our bushwalk, and suddenly giraffes crossed our path. As I said, we weren't tracking the big animals, and we were moving quietly and carefully. Even so, it was possible that we might still encounter one.

Giraffes are curious animals and are known for staring intently. We enjoyed the moment of being able to linger quite close to this magnificent creature. As Ralf mentioned, the wind direction also plays a crucial role. Wind is one of the most important factors when planning a bushwalk.

Stay tuned for the next episode on 17 May, when we deal with a potentially dangerous encounter on our bushwalk.
