Rhulani Insights 289 – The best season for a safari

- Rhulani Insights

A look behind the scenes at Rhulani Safari Lodge.

Guests often ask us: "What is the best time of year for a safari?" It is a good question—one we would like to explore in more detail today during a leisurely drive through the bush with ranger Ralf. Just as nature changes its appearance with the seasons, our guests’ preferences vary, meaning there is no single, clear-cut answer. Let’s take a closer look.

Every day, every year, every new season is a reset from the last, and you are still hungry for success, to do things better and better.

Madikwe Game Reserve experiences distinct seasons. Summer - roughly between November and February  - falls within the rainy season; the landscape turns a lush green, and the weather can range from sunny and cloudy to occasionally rainy. Daytime temperatures can reach nearly 40°C—a stark contrast to the European winter.

In contrast, the winter season - June to August - offers pleasant, sunny days with no rainfall, though the days are shorter and the nights cool; on a morning safari, fresh out of bed, you might well need a winter jacket and a wool blanket.

Rhulani Safari Lodge is open year-round, allowing guests to choose the time that best suits their personal preferences. Wildlife viewing remains consistently excellent throughout the year, thanks in part to our experienced rangers, who possess great intuition and coordinate via radio during game drives.

Stay tuned for the next episode on 15 November when we have a look at the wildlife at the waterhole.
