Rhulani Insights 283 – The start of a veggie garden @Rhulani

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

Just a few weeks after completing our new vegetable garden tunnel, we are delighted to share the first exciting milestone: the very first seedlings have emerged. In this new episode of Rhulani Insights, Rhulani owner Rolf and Lodge Manager Tom-Hendrik take you on a behind-the-scenes tour of our growing veggie garden.

Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.

- Doug Larson, American journalist

What started as a vision has now become a living project, with rows of young vegetables already reaching for the African sunshine. The garden is an important part of Rhulani Safari Lodge's long-term sustainability strategy. By growing more of our own fresh produce on-site, we aim to reduce food transportation, minimise our environmental footprint, and serve our guests ingredients harvested only metres from the kitchen.

Combined with our composting programme, rainwater collection, solar energy investments and RO water purification system, the vegetable garden is another step towards operating in harmony with the magnificent environment that surrounds us.

There is still much to learn and many seasons ahead, but every thriving seedling reminds us that meaningful sustainability begins with small steps taken consistently. We look forward to sharing the garden's progress with you as it continues to grow and, before long, becomes part of the fresh culinary experience enjoyed by our guests. Sometimes, the smallest sprouts are the first signs of the biggest changes.

Stay tuned for the next episode on 23 August when we ask the question if elephants can sleep?
