A stunning Sunrise, Lions on the Airstrip and a Leopard

  • April 17, 2017 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Our last Morning Game Drive with Sean started with a beautiful sunrise over Inkwe Pan, continued with a Lion Couple on the Airstrip and ended with Leopard “Munye”, who sneaked out of the Madikwe bush again.

Stunning sunrise over Inkwe Pan

It was a beautiful morning in early April. Around 6am, the sun slowly started to rise and we could still see some stars in the sky before heading out onto our Morning Game Drive with Rhulani Safari Lodge.
Sean stopped for us at Inkwe Pan for some stunning sunrise photos with a beautiful reflection in the water. The night before we could see/hear some Lions roaring at the same place.

After everyone got the perfect shot we drove on – just to find our “Honeymoon” Lion Couple on the airstrip, watching the sunrise. We spotted them some days before and they were not shy mating right in front of our Landcruiser.

As usual, Sean found us the best spot for a photo of the Lion couple on the airstrip. We then left them to their romantic start into the day and headed further into the Madikwe bush.

A young Black-back Jackal

Along the way we met a young Black-backed Jackal with his mom – probably the same one that joined us for our Sundowners the night before. As usual, we spotted Zebras and Impalas, some beautiful birds – and then: Sean found fresh tracks of Leopard “Munye”.

Sean found Leopard tracks – “Munye” showed up a little later

Sean got out of the Landcruiser to investigate “Munye’s” tracks in the bush, together with some Rangers from other lodges.

A little later Munye showed up – running over the road right in front of our car – right into the thick bush. After a little off-roading we could get a glimpse of him. We snapped away on our cameras and then headed to our Amarula coffee stop.

A great start into a new day – thanks Sean.
