February update: A mystical idyll and a cheetah birth

  • March 03, 2020 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Slowly and slowly we are approaching the end of summer time and this with fantastic pictures from Madikwe Game Reserve. The countless, unique animal observations that our guests were able enjoy were surpassed by extraordinary news: the birth of a cheetah. This is the monthly report from February.

The park has been waiting for this moment for so long. See the article about the recent cheetah birth here. Our guests have not yet seen the little baby. Assuming that the vulnerable little cheetah survives these first critical days and weeks and that the mother shows herself to our vehicles after leaving the den, we will see the newcomer in the future too.

In addition to the cheetahs, the lions also had offspring. There are now three new lion cubs in the park. We are especially pleased that a well-known leopard, which we once called "Munye", left its hiding place after a long time and is now showing himself again.

Our head ranger Sean, who always has his camera ready for special moments, sent us some photos of the reserve's "mystical idyll". The changing weather conditions, with the rainy season in sunny South Africa, gave unique impressions.

Finally, here are the success rates for a  sighting of the well-known "Big 5" animals on a game drive of 3-3.5 hours: Elephant 90%, White Rhino 67%, Lion 62%, Buffalo 47%, Leopard 9%.
