Rhulani Insights 119 – Releasing a Rock Python

  • July 07, 2019 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

The youngest Field Guide in our five-member ranger’s team, Martin, is a well-known animal lover. In addition to his passion to learn about these rare animals, he helps injured or threatened snakes to recover until he releases them back into the wild nature.

There are many snake species in Madikwe Game Reserve, including the beautiful but threatened Rock Python. Today is the day we go out together with Martín in the bush, and we see how one of these animals is released in the wild. Martín had found this animal some time ago, when it was a baby and probably too weak to survive.

In today's blog, we have the opportunity to learn about Martin's love for the snakes, as well as his project and the situation in Madikwe.

“I'm like a snake sleeping on a rock. I won't bother you unless you poke a stick at me.” – Harlan Ellison, American Writer
