Sean again – he found Tsala, a Female Leopard (Alasdair “off-roaded” us there)

  • February 05, 2017 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

It’s just a usual day in the “office” for Sean. He’ s taking Rhulani’s safari guests on a morning game drive in Madikwe Game Reserve – and besides spotting Cheetahs and other fascinating wildlife, he finds a Leopard on a Marula Tree. This time it’s “Tsala”, a female Leopard.

Tsala – Female Leopard in Madikwe Game Reserve

I was at the right time at the right place

That morning (a few days ago), I was on my way to the Rhulani office. As it turns out, I happened to be at the right time at the right place: Alasdair just came back from his game drive and the guests went back to their Chalets when Sean radioed that he found “Tsala”, a female Leopard, on a Marula Tree. Alasdair quickly got his safari guests back together so that they also have a chance to see the Leopard.

I was lucky to be there at that moment so that I could join the spontaneous game viewing – I ran back to my Wendy House, fetched my camera and jumped onto the Landcruiser – ready for my second Leopard in Madikwe Game Reserve.

Alasdair “off-roaded” us to Tsala and her Marula Tree

Alasdair made his way to the Leopard. Sean constantly updated him about the exact location of “Tsala” so that we could find her. That’s great team work and pure dedication to Rhulani’s safari guests!

We “off-roaded” through very rocky terrain, which they call ‘Mordor’ out of fun (as in “Lord of the Rings”).

Finally, we had a visual of “Tsala”. She had left the Marula Tree and was strolling around for quite a while (you can watch her in the video). A little later, she decided to climb up another Marula Tree where she made herself comfortable on one of its branches and ended up just “hanging around”.

Rhulani’s Field Guides – Sean, Alasdair and Riaan – Best Rangers in the world!

Thanks, Sean, for spotting “Tsala”. Thanks, Alasdair, for “off-roading” us to her.

Recently, Alasdair found a Leopard on a morning drive as well (… I should probably go on more morning safaris …). Riaan was on leave – otherwise he would have found us a Leopard, too - as this is what Rhulani’s Rangers do. They find you the most amazing wildlife in the Madikwe bush, read animal behavior, show you little wildlife or interesting plants along the way - and get out of their Landcruisers to track animals and read spoors...

If it is not a Leopard, they find you Cheetahs, a roaring Lion or Lion cubs, Rhinos, Buffalos, Elephant herds with babies, the best sundowner spots, some of the “Little Five” (like Leopard Tortoise), and so much more.

As mentioned before, they go the extra mile to give you the best safari experience ever. And without their great photos, videos and infos about wildlife and plants my Blog articles would not be the same.

Whoever finds the famous Wild Dogs of Madikwe or a Pangolin will appear in the next Blog article (no pressure).  ☺
