Welcome Felix!

  • August 24, 2023 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Another cheetah has quietly and inconspicuously made its way to the Madikwe Game Reserve and will now delight our guests as well. The beautiful cat is a male, we call him "Felix". The journey to his new home was quite amazing.

Felix actually lived quietly and problem-free in an adjacent, private piece of land, called "Purplerain", where he was well looked after and there were no significant dangers for him.

And yet Felix suddenly broke out, which is quite astonishing given the fenced area he was in. For a while Felix made his way unnoticed and somewhere in no man's land before he finally reappeared in the Madikwe Game Reserve. How he got in there is another good question. But one thing is certain, here Felix has to deal with the everyday dangers of a Big5 reserve.

If Felix prefers to live here, we have to accept this, and Purplerain was so generous in sponsoring the beautiful cheetah so he is staying with us from now on.

In the 75,000 hectare reserve, it will not be so easy for us to find him. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. And yet Felix likes to show himself, as Rhulani's ranger Willem reports.

Willem found the cat after it had successfully killed a female impala and was eating it when we arrived with our guests.

Welcome Felix to Madikwe Reserve!
