Rhulani Insights 076 - Aloes in Rhulani’s entrance circle

  • October 15, 2017 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

Let's walk through Rhulani's entrance circle today and let us take a look at the first impressions our arriving guests get from our lodge. It would be exaggerated to say that it is a "garden", but there are some very nice aloes, which welcome our guests.

We have tried many times to improve this area with plants, and we have already spent a lot of money. But every time wild animals, especially elephants, have destroyed our little garden and eaten our plants. We remember: Rhulani is an unfenced camp.

But it is not too bad either. Rhulani is embedded in nature and avoids "artificial areas". We do not want to use our scarce water to maintain a green garden. With Carla we walk through the entrance area today and see that our aloes also create a beautiful ambience.

“I think the aloe is one of South Africa's most powerful, beautiful and celebratory symbols. It survives out there in the wild when everything else is dried.” – Athol Fugard, South African playwright

Stay tuned for next episode on Sunday 29 October 2017 when we have a look at Rhulani’s laundry room.
