Rhulani Insights 253 – An invisible fence

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

As you may know, Rhulani Safari Lodge is "officially" an unfenced camp. But not entirely. To protect against elephants, there is at least an electric wire around the lodge, which in certain sections in not visible, especially where you would like to enjoy a clear view of nature.

Don't ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up.

- Gilbert K. Chesterton, English writer

This also applies to the area of the lounge, near the watering hole, where you want to observe the animals passing by and stopping for a drink. Even there, the electric fence runs through to prevent the elephants from getting too close to us (which usually works).

The fence, however, is barely visible to the naked eye because it runs along the ground at a height of about 10 cm. In today's blog, Rolf goes there and shows us the invisible fence up close.

Stay tuned for the next episode on 29 June when we ask the safari returnees about the success of the drive.
