Madikwe shines on German television: Traumschiff films New Year’s episode at Rhulani’s home reserve

We are delighted to share exciting news from the heart of the beautiful Madikwe Game Reserve: Madikwe has been chosen as the filming location for the New Year’s episode of “Das Traumschiff”, the most iconic and beloved TV series on German television for more than 40 years. The episode will air on ZDF on 1 January.

In this special New Year’s chapter, the Traumschiff sets sail to Africa – a continent full of adventure and natural wonders. Onboard, unforgettable stories unfold:

• Sophia Berg, on assignment for “Ärzte für Madikwe”, is about to begin working at a hospital in Madikwe. Although her first encounter with Captain Max Parger doesn’t go smoothly, a spark quickly ignites between them.
• Katja Sommer and Björn Wagner are sure they want to spend their future together in Hamburg, but how will their teenagers, Lisa Sommer and Paul Wagner, react? A shared safari strengthens bonds, but a sudden kiss between Lisa and Paul shakes the patchwork family’s plans.
• Oliver Stiller and Emilia Gronewald, both struggling with the thought of ending their lives, decide to continue their journey together, facing their challenges side by side.

Viewers will also be treated to stunning visuals of Madikwe’s wildlife, open savannahs, and luxurious lodges, all captured in their full glory. The episode beautifully shows that a deep dive into Madikwe can be a life-changing experience.

We are proud that Madikwe was selected as the safari destination for this production. The project began one year ago, in December 2024, when executive producer Mr. Raphael Scriba conducted the first scouting visit. During this trip, Rhulani’s owner Rolf had the pleasure of showing him around the reserve and introducing him to a variety of its exceptional lodges.

Rolf expressed his delight: "We are thrilled that Madikwe is featured in Traumschiff. We hope that during the cold winter days in Europe, viewers across the German-speaking countries will be inspired to experience the sun, beauty, and wildlife of Madikwe for themselves and come and visit us in the new year!"
