When a highly professional photographer and an experienced ranger are on safari and discover a giraffe that slips and falls into a waterhole, then a sensational photo story is guaranteed. Enjoy spectacular impressions of an extraordinary sighting in the bush.
Rhulani's guest, German photographer Thomas Baeslack (https://baeslack.fotograf.de/wrapper/home) had his camera ready on this beautiful afternoon in the Madikwe Game Reserve. Rhulan's Ranger Martin deftly maneuvered the vehicle into the best position.
Martin noticed the wet surface on which the giraffe actually wanted to set up to have a drink. "Shortly before, elephants were here and splashed around with the water," he says. And then the accident happened. The tall, slender animal with its stilt-shaped legs slipped and dropped directly into mud hole.
"Usually the animals do not manage to get out, and certainly not a clumsy giraffe," says Martin. But this time the animal was lucky. Somehow it broke free and crawled out.
However, the poor animal slipped on safe ground again and showed a spectacular fall. "It's not easy for giraffes to get up from their lying position," says Martin. "For a few minutes, the animal rested on the ground before making another attempt and finally succeeded."
