Notice to guests: New entry procedures at Madikwe Game Reserve

- News, Accommodation

Rhulani Safari Lodge would like to inform our valued guests of newly implemented entry procedures at the gates and airstrip of Madikwe Game Reserve. These measures are being introduced by the North West Parks and Tourism Board (NWPTB) and apply to all arriving visitors, whether entering the reserve by vehicle through the access gates or by air via the Madikwe Airstrip.

The purpose of these procedures is to enhance the overall security and biosecurity of the reserve, ensuring the continued protection of both our guests and Madikwe’s remarkable wildlife.

Guest Identification and Registration

Upon arrival, all guests will be required to complete a brief registration process conducted by NWPTB officials. This includes the verification of guest identification. We kindly request that visitors have a valid passport or South African ID card readily available to facilitate a smooth and efficient process.

While this procedure may add a few moments to arrival time, additional staff will be present at the gates and airstrip to assist guests and minimize any inconvenience. We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation in this regard.

Biosecurity and Disinfection Measures

In addition to identification, NWPTB is implementing biosecurity measures designed to protect the reserve’s wildlife from potential external risks. These measures are preventative in nature and are aligned with best practices used in conservation areas worldwide.

Guests can expect the following:

  • Vehicle tyres will be sanitized at entry points.
  • Visitors will be asked to walk through shallow footbaths containing a disinfectant.

The disinfectant used is a diluted F10 solution, which is widely used, industry-standard, and completely safe for humans.

These precautions are being implemented in response to the recent increase in Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) cases in South Africa, including confirmed cases on farms in areas surrounding Madikwe. It is important to emphasize that FMD does not pose any risk to humans; it affects only cloven-hoofed animals such as buffalo, wildebeest, cattle, goats, and similar species.

Madikwe Game Reserve already enforces strict controls, including the prohibition of moving cloven-hoofed animals into or out of the reserve. The additional biosecurity steps at gates and airstrips further reduce the risk of accidental transmission and help safeguard the long-term health of the reserve’s wildlife.

Our Commitment to a Safe and Enjoyable Stay

We understand that these procedures may feel unfamiliar or slightly inconvenient, but they are essential to preserving the ecological integrity of Madikwe Game Reserve. NWPTB staff will be available on site to explain the process and answer any questions guests may have.

Rhulani Safari Lodge remains fully committed to providing a seamless, safe, and memorable safari experience. We thank you for your understanding and support in helping us protect this extraordinary wilderness for generations to come.

Should you have any questions prior to your arrival, please do not hesitate to contact our reservations team. We look forward to welcoming you to Madikwe.
