Baby Animals in Madikwe - Part I: Lion Cubs
There are so many Baby Animals in Madikwe Game Reserve, at the moment. On your safari with Rhulani Lodge you might be able to spot Baby Zebras, mini Warthog Piglets, Young Giraffes, Baby Elephants, and more. I decided to do a little series over the next few weeks. Today, we are starting with cute little Lion Cubs.
Lion Cubs in Madikwe – Jamala Pride
The Jamala pride in Madikwe Game Reserve has 2 small and very cute male Lion cubs (about 2,5 months old) and 2 sub-adult females (about 1 year and 3 months old). Their Dad is “Chimbro”.
It’s so much fun to watch them playing around or cuddling with their mom “Jamala”. Sometimes they are very lazy and just lie in the shade of a tree or they are hiding in the long grass.
Matlapa Lion cubs
The Matlapa pride in Madikwe has 3 sub-adult male Lion cubs (about 1 year and 5 months old). Their parents are the Lioness “Matlapa” and Dad “Kwandwe (also known as “Pretty Boy”). Last time we saw them on our safari with Rhulani Lodge, Kwandwe was babysitting them while their mom was away.
First, they were very lazy, then slowly waking up, yawning and doing some stretches before walking 5 steps … and then flopping back onto the ground again.
Gestation Period – Lion
2,5-3 months
Enjoy the new life in the bush – not a lot of words are needed here. Enjoy these cuties – hopefully you can see the Lion cubs on your safari with Rhulani Lodge in Madikwe Game Reserve, soon.

Watch Alasdair’s video of the Jamala pride Lion cubs playing and cuddling with their mom. I also added some scenes of the Matlapa Lion Cubs with their Dad “Kwandwe” (“Pretty Boy”) and a Jamala Lion cub hiding in the long grass.
