June update: time for creative ideas

  • July 07, 2017 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

June is traditionally our quietest month measured by the total number of guests visiting us. But we were much more busy than in previous years, which confirms the general rising popularity of Madikwe Game Reserve. The quality of animal observations remains excellent for all our guests. Here is the summary in our monthly update.

A special sighting: a spotted hyena family with little cubs

Time for creative ideas: a fresh look of Rhulani at the pool

The month of June is usually the time when lots of changes, renovations and innovative ideas are put into practice. The slightly lower occupancy gives us time to redefine our product and service, and to launch creative ideas. This was also the case this year. Our staff completed successfully another module in the South African Butler Academy's training course, consolidated the knowledge of the five-star service delivery, defined new signature services, and as innovation, we introduced a "daily activity" for our guests.

Rhulani received a new, refreshing look in the main area and in our guest rooms as part of our permanent upgrades (#RhulaniNEXT). Further, we installed a new internet access based on an uncapped fiber line so that our guests can now enjoy a much better, free wifi in the room and in all areas of the lodge.

Despite extraordinary works that absorbed time of our employees, the daily lodge and safari program ran smoothly every day. Our guests enjoyed unique experiences in the African bush. Our three top animals were seen with a chance of more than 50 per cent on every game drive: Elephant 91%, Lion 69%, White Rhino 53%.

There have been frequent encounters with the many different predators that can be found in Madikwe, for example spotted hyena (31%), black-backed jackal (29%), brown hyena (14%), cheetah (12%), wild dog (5%), leopard (5%). One family visiting Rhulani in June was particularly lucky when they discovered the so-called "Magnificent Seven" in a very short time.

Even for our experienced rangers, there were special, not everyday highlights. They reported a spotted hyena family with 3 cubs, a wildcat with kittens, and even a shy caracal came out of the bush with beautiful cubs.
