Exciting news for Madikwe safari visitors and Rhulani's guests. Times with dry, colorless winters are definitely over. The zebras of the reserve will be painted and thus will give the park a beautiful splash of color. Are you interested in a sponsorship?

Madikwe is a dry region. There is only little water. Especially in winter, there is no rain at all for months. "Our guests love the weather stability, but they want to see nature with more colors, as by the drought, it often appears just in yellow and brown," says Rolf Steiner, Rhulani's owner.

In collaboration with park's management Rhulani has developed an innovative solution. Just in time for the start of a the drought period, over 1,000 zebras in the reserve will be painted, in yellow, green, blue or red. This will result in a unique and colorful setting and in exceptional photographic opportunities for the guests.

Declan Hofmeyr, Operations Manager of Madikwe, is enthusiastic about this innovation: "We will also give our guests the opportunity to support this initiative and to take over the sponsorship of a zebra". The contribution for a zebra is R 10,000. "We want to inspire safari lovers for this action," says Hofmeyr. But there are also opportunities for companies to get a branded zebra: "For R 20,0000 it is possible to print also your company logo."

Through this action potentially R 10 million could be collected. "But we are cautious and budget only R1 million," says Hofmeyr. This money will fully flow back in our conservation fund.

Isn't there a concern that the paint will stick forever to the zebras? "No," says Hofmeyr, "the paint is water soluble, which means that with the first rain in summer, in about 6 months, the paint will dissolve and the project is finished.”
