Rhulani Insights 021 - Game views: Black rhino dung analysis

  • December 28, 2014 | Rolf Steiner

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

Do you remember the recent blog during our sundowner break, where we smelled an elephant dung? Today we find again the feces of a large mammal that lives in Madikwe. Thanks to our expert Chris also this time we successfully identify it.

Game views: Black rhino dung analysis

Of course we would have given credit to our experienced ranger Chris, that he would exactly know where this object comes from, namely from a rhinoceros. But it is just amazing of how many additional details we can discover: Black rhino or white rhino? Male or female rhino? What and how does this animal eat? Was it a young or an old rhino?

Watch this episode of Rhulani Insights and agree with us that the bush contains an infinity of secrets which you can easily discover, when you just open your eyes and ask your ranger. And be happy with us that Madikwe is a place where our rhinos can leave in peace and are well protected.

“The only way to save a rhinoceros is to save the environment in which it lives, because there's a mutual dependency between it and millions of other species of both animals and plants.” – David Attenborough, Broadcaster

Stay tuned for next episode on Sunday 11 January 2015, when we join the work of deck renewal in Rhulani's outside lounge.
