Rhulani Insights 031 - Lions in the bushes

  • July 26, 2015 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge and feel the bush.

On safari to find lions, is always an absolute highlight, and in Madikwe this is fortunately also quite likely. A relatively large lion population, but more importantly, an exceptionally good sense of our experienced rangers make it possible that we rarely have guests who do not get to see any of these powerful predators during their stay at Rhulani.

In today's episode we meet a couple of lions, which rest in the warm afternoon sun in the bushes, and perhaps prepare for the hunt as soon as the sun goes down. Since lions anyway most of the time simply do nothing, lying in the grass, and do not run away when you approach them by vehicle, lion sightings are always spectacular. Today with Rolf we learn more about the lions’ life in Madikwe, and about the security aspects for such sightings.

“A lion is called a 'king of beasts' obviously for a reason.” – Jack Hanna, Zookeeper

Stay tuned for next episode on Sunday 9 August 2015, where we walk to the room at night
