Rhulani Insights 040 - Boma dinner with staff singing
Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.
One of the biggest surprises for safari inexperienced guests is a special dinner around the fire in the so-called “boma”.
According to history, a “boma” is a livestock enclosure or stockade used in many parts of the African Great Lakes region, as well as Central and Southern Africa. It is particularly associated with European colonial rule. Today, a boma is an area surrounded by a fence, used for outdoor meals and parties.
Rhulani also has a boma. It is circular, has a sandy floor and a big fire in the center. In a wonderful night under the African sky this place is beautifully decorated, with torches, candles and with set tables, around the campfire. Today we take a look in our boma with Rolf during dinner time. Our staff contributes to a unique atmosphere by singing local songs.
Stay tuned for next episode on Sunday 7 February 2016 when we talk to our Assistant Managers Riaan and Carla and learn more about the life of a couple in the bush.
