Rhulani Insights 049 - A new thatched rood for the guest chalet

  • July 10, 2016 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

The winter months are a bit quieter and Rhulani has a slightly lower occupancy level. We take advantage of this to carry out renovation work. A safari lodge in the bush, which has guests every day, and is exposed to extreme climate changes, gnaws at our infrastructure. We invest a lot of time, resources and funds in order to keep everything at highest level.

One of the recurring tasks relates to the roofs. All our buildings in the main area and the private guest chalets have a natural thatched roof, from which we hope that it stays tight in the rainy season. Minor repairs are permanently running as soon as we discover a leak, but after a while the dry grass is no longer absorbent and must be completely replaced.

“The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining. ” – John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States

In today's blog we are at work and get a glimpse of this key taks on our maintenance plan.

Stay tuned for next episode on Sunday 24 July 2016 when we show you the different mammals you can discover in Madikwe Reserve.
