Rhulani Insights 074 - Finding leopard Munye in the thick bush

  • September 03, 2017 | Rhulani Safari Lodge

Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.

In the middle of the thicket lies Munye, a beautiful leopard. We have accidentally found this fascinating predator here. Let's dedicate today's blog to one of the rarest animals of Madikwe.

The leopard is one of the rare and spectacular sightings you can get in Madikwe. The "Master of Camouflage" is one of the dangerous Big 5, and it is the predator which is most difficult to find. The number of leopards in the reserve is relatively small, they are looking for hiding places where they can hardly be found, and many animals are shy, so they hide when they hear the engine noise of a game drive vehicle.

Today we are quite relaxed next to a wonderful leopard named "Munye". Our ranger Sean has found the animal here in the thicket and tells us today more details about the leopards of Madikwe.

“I went to South Africa on safari and came eye to eye with a beautiful leopard. We were so close; I was staring at him for a long time and I felt a recognition with my own nature.” – Bai Ling, Chinese actress
