The photo shooting was a lot of fun for Rhulani's staff

After a series of renovations, refreshments in the design and introduction of “yellow” to the colour palette, it was clear to Rhulani’s owner Marisa: It’s time to initiate a new set of pictures and present our new look to the public. However, it was much more than just “pictures”. It became an ambitious project with the goal to express the unique beauty of Rhulani by using the best professional resources and technology.

"My husband Rolf had the idea of taking the photos himself. But I quickly told him that this is not going to work" says Marisa, with all her passion in charge of the project. “This is a key initiative of a 5-star lodge, where highest quality is required.” Marisa engaged the famous British photographer Stevie Mann and the Canadian stylist Sue Fusco from Kenya. “Nothing against the quality of Rolf’s pictures, but this is of course just at another level.”

The project took five long working days, often starting early with the sunrise, and finishing well after sunset. Each scene had to be perfectly prepared. The angle of the shadow of a wine glass on the white table cloth, the way how the bathing towel loosely lies on the plunge pool's edge, the exact hole between the leaves of the Marula tree for the evening sun to shine through and enlighten the interior decor of the chalets, the precise position of the strawberry on top of the dessert; everything was meticulously measured and prepared before the photo was taken.

In addition to hard work, which involved the entire Rhulani staff, there was also a lot of fun. "Our staff were just terrific. I remember the one early morning when all of the staff were there out of curiosity, when in fact they had permission to sleep longer…" says Marisa. Chris’ drives in the bush were unforgettable, with Stevie and his photographic tripod installed on the hood, searching for the right angle. Marisa reminiscence on the great performance of our chef Girly, who prepared Rhulani’s entire menu palette for photographic purposes in a single day, culminating in a funny and tasty dinner for the staff.

Marisa praises the excellent job of Stevie and Sue: “It is just fantastic; the end result could not be better.” The new photographs are now introduced step by step in Rhulani's marketing and are now available for interested customers and travel agents.
