As far as we know, we find a “silverback” only with gorillas. But the boss of this troop of chacma baboons also has a silver color on its back.

If you were a guest at Rhulani in recent years, you may remember the two impressive male lions, which we called the “Kwandwe Brother’s”. Sadly we have to inform that one of the brothers has just died in a terrible fight with other lions, and the second was seriously a few days later.

Elephants never really sleep. They are permanently looking for food or for something new with their trunk. Here is a bull elephant digging in a mix between brown dust and green grass.

We remain completely silent on our vehicle, while a wonderful male lion parades just in front of us. No doubt that this is the king in ‪Madikwe‬

The rock monitor, also called the legavaan, is a species of monitor lizard found in Madikwe, and as you see, also quite often in the roof of our guest chalets. These reptiles like to stay close to the outdoor shower.

The month of July is over. It is still winter time, which means we experienced cold nights, pleasant, sunny days, not a single drop of rain, and the most important: fantastic game viewing. Here is the monthly update from the bush by our rangers.

We usually find the zebras in smaller groups, called “a dazzle of zebras”. This one here is standing alone, enjoying a fantastic view over the vast plains of Madikwe. Our presence does not seem to disturb it at all.

There are no guarantees on safari. But Rhulani’s statistics show that all members of the famous “Big Five” are seen with a high probability. Except leopard. This is a hard nut to crack even for our experienced rangers, like Sean.

A pretty funny moment: A white rhino grazes quietly through the savannah, in the interplay between light and shadow in the evening sun. It moves exactly on the shadow of the roof from our game drive vehicle.

A lion family is resting under a bush. Only the small ones are awake, and they are happily playing. A small cub jumps onto daddy’s back - that’s fun!
