A large elephant herd with many young animals and babies is approaching the waterhole with a determined step. Under the hot sun they go for a drink, and then they enjoy themselves in the mud.

Your Morning Game Drive at Rhulani Safari Lodge starts with a Wake-Up call around 5am in summer (6am in winter). Enjoy some snacks and coffee/tea at the lodge before heading out. Hop onto your seat and enjoy the ride –an amazing sunrise over Madikwe is waiting for you – as well as fascinating wildlife, interesting facts about animals and plants as well as snacks and coffee/tea in the bush.

Here we see three female Kudus, who meet for a drink at the waterhole. They look cautiously around, and after that they stand nicely in a row, just perfect for a group photo.

It’s amazing what variety of wildlife you can find in Madikwe Game Reserve – and I am not only talking about the Big Five and other famous and popular animals. It’s also important to keep an eye out for the small things in (wild) life.

With another Rhino notching event, we concluded our conservation activities for 2016 on 9 December, together with Rhulani’s guests. A small, white rhino was registered, equipped with microchips and notched at the ears, which made an important contribution to the safety of this endangered animal species.

We observe a wonderful giraffe when approachat the pan, and see how difficult it is for this animal with the long lengs to get into a comfortable drinking position. The giraffe quickly moves the head up again in order to manage the blood pressure in the brain.

The largest animal In Madikwe meets with one of the smallest at the water hole. The big elephant bull is drinking water, and next to him a little dung beetle rolls his ball. A funny encounter!

In a just normal November month with, presumambly, no highlights, there was always something going on at Rhulani: heat, sun, rain, lightning, two prestigious award winnings, and the most important thing: many satisfied guests. On the edge of the dam some elephants are playing joyfully. The proximity to the water and the beautiful weather seem to please those big mammals. Elephants are really always funny to observe, do you agree?

It was already quite dark when we suddenly met this leopard resting in an open field. It is our female called “Thala”. We follow this beautiful cat on the way to the waterhole and observe it when drinking.
