Let us have a closer look at one of the largest antelope species: the Kudu. They are very common in Madikwe. The male has beautiful long and twisted horns, big ears, and a beautiful skin with thin stripes. And look how elegant they walk.

Did you know that in Madikwe Game Reserve you will be amazed about the funny dung beetles that are eagerly rolling a round dung ball through the savannah? Rhulani’s Ranger Martin tells us more about these special insects and their “honeymoon through the bush”.

The heaviest flying bird in Africa, the Kori Bustard, struts proudly through the grasslands in Madikwe and is observed by a large audience of zebras. And of course also by us.

Maybe you will arrive at Rhulani Safari Lodge by taking the Fedair flight from the international airport in Johannesburg. Then we will pick you up at our Western Airstrip. One of the preparatory work for landing is to chase the animals off the airstrip.

On a damp bank of the water dam we observe three white rhinos. It is father, mother and their calf. They are having a good time together, are enjoying the mud and are playing and rolling around.

Did you know that you often encounter the Southern-masked Weavers in our lodge? Rhulani’s Head Ranger sean introduces us to these coloured birds and tells us how the males build beautiful nests with their beaks.

These impressions come from the turn of the year, when there is a lot of grass for the animals to eat thanks to the rain, and so the impalas are strong enough to have babies and raise them. Enjoy these pictures in the green nature of Madikwe and a cute, little Impala staring to discover the world.

Not far from Rhulani Safari Lodge is a beautiful watering hole for the animals, called “Inkwe pan”. There is also a bird hide, a small wooden house to observe the animals. We go and have a look today with Sean.

A dung beetle couple rolls a nicely shaped ball of dung across the African savannah. Not even the biggest obstacles keep the two heavy workers from reaching their goal, and certainly not the constant falling on their backs. But where should the trip go?
