Did you know that the baby elephants love to frolic around for life, but are always watched and protected by the adults? Rhulani’s ranger Ralf tells us today about a fantastic sighting where a small elephant suddenly ran towards him, but was stopped by its mother.

This morning, like every day at sunrise, Rhulani’s ranger Willem drives his guest to the nearby “Inkwe Pan”, where he spots the last remains of a buffalo in the water. Hyena calls break the morning silence.

There is something mysterious about a herd of buffalo hiding behind the sickle bushes and watching us from there. This extremely dangerous mammal is not called “the black dearth of the bush” for nothing.

It is surprising to see how the lions lie quietly and without any movement on the grass, resting, and yet breathing very quickly. Why are they doing this? This will help them cool down after an effort and after a feast.

The almost completely dried out Thlou Dam looks almost apocalyptic, but the atmosphere with the setting sun and the lonely elephant looking for water are simply unique and magical.

Every year: Well coordinated with the global “Rhino Day”, an event with lots of activities and information about endangered rhinos took place in the Madikwe Game Reserve. No question that Rhulani was present this time too, and that some of our guests were also fascinated by this important topic.
