Today’s blog is dedicated once again to the most beautiful activity you can experience at our lodge: the game drive. Very close to our vehicle we see a big elephant, slowly passing by. He is neither frightened nor aggressive.

The year is slowly coming to an end, which means for us that we are rated by the most important hotel awards organizations. Rhulani is proud to announce that we received the trophy for “Africa’s Best Relaxation Retreat” from the World Boutique Hotel Awards. We have thus successfully defended the title from the previous two years.

Once the temperatures during the day are summery hot, the animals from Madikwe look for a shady spot and rest. Thus we find here a big buffalo herd in the shade of the bushes.

Start of the rainy season, test of our new electric wire around the lodge, a roaring leopard, and the most important: very high chances for our guests to see a lot of animals even in a short stay. Welcome to our October report from the bush.

Wild dogs are dangerous hunters when they are in a pack and strategically encircle their prey. However, as we see here a zebra is maybe just too big for them. We ask ourselves: Who is chasing whom? Catch me, if you can….

With great expectations, Rhulani’s owner Rolf traveled to the Gala Ceremony from the “2016 World Luxury Hotel Awards”. We are following Rolf on his way to receive the trophy “Best Bush Lodge - Worldwide” for the third consecutive time. The trip was worth it!

It is always a moment in which we quietly and a bit nervous are sitting on our safari vehicle. An elephant bull comes close to us and presents his white tusk. The elephant actually just wanted to pass, which he finally does.

Although Madikwe is a wildlife reserve, where the laws of the free nature apply, there is a park management, which undertakes certain activities for the protection of endangered animal species. As a guest of Rhulani, can I give support and participate in such activities?

On 15 September we reported that we have lost the signal and traces of our female Cheetah Iketle. Now, more than a month later, Iketle remains disappeared. None of the rangers from the Madikwe reserve has ever been able to see Iketle on a game drive. Does this mean that Iketle is dead? Has the Cheetah project failed?
