For the new year, Rhulani Safari Lodge contributes to environmental sustainability: We have removed all plastic bottles at the lodge. For our daily game drives, all our guests receive a Rhulani drinking water bottle as a gift, which can be refilled at the dispenser station before departure.

News from our young ranger and «snake man» Martin: He recently found a snake in a bucket near our water tanks. A typical location for the dangerous puff adder. And it actually also looked like one…

The afternoon game drive ends in the dark with a real highlight. Here lies the mighty lion male, whom we call “Monomogolo”, in the grass, and begins to roar, so that he freezes everything around him in fear.

Did you know that lions define their territory by means of so-called “scent marking”? Rhulani’s Head Ranger Sean introduces us today to two lion males that live very close to our lodge and he tells us more about these impressive big cats.

We couldn’t believe our eyes. In the middle of an Impala herd, we discovered an animal with somewhat strangely shaped and unusually long horns. It soon became clear that it was not a male. It was a female with a genetic defect.

We recently met a pride of lions at Inkwe Pan. Among them was the most beautiful, biggest, most impressive and also by far the oldest lioness in the entire reserve. We call her “Mika”. It was a sighting of rare beauty.

Another year is coming to an end. In the Madikwe Game Reserve we will soon be celebrating Christmas with our guests, employees and the animals. Today Rolf & Sean are presenting you the real natural “Christmas Tree of the African bush”.

We have done some renovation work in the past few days, so we temporarily cut off the electrical wire around the lodge. A young elephant bull used this opportunity for a short visit to Rhulani.
