March was for us a sort of “transitional-month” between the end of the summer season, and the upcoming April with a holiday period in South Africa and Easter. Slowly slowly the summer months are coming to an end. The balance of this period is as follows: Constantly very good animal observations, many happy guests, and quantities of rain which were just incredible for Madikwe. Here is our monthly update for February.

Rhulani Safari Lodge in Madikwe has several Dining locations on offer. Guests can enjoy their 5 star dinner in the Old Boma, the Courtyard or the Indoor Dining Room. The all-time favourite is the Boma Dinner, where safari guests can indulge in delicious meals around the fireplace, underneath the African stars.

For a long while, I tried to get a picture of the Warthog Mom with their little Piglets. I spotted them at Rhulani’s waterhole and also while driving from the Wonderboom Gate towards the lodge - or even at the pool area. But I either didn’t have a camera with me or they were running away too quickly. Now, I finally succeeded.

On 11 February 2017, during a beautiful Full Moon, Madikwe Game Reserve (in conjunction with Bongani Ngunduza) organized “Drumming for Madikwe Rhinos - a Fundraising Event for the Counter Poaching Unit in Madikwe who is constantly fighting against Rhino Poaching. The safari guests at Rhulani Lodge and me joined the event.

In December we were disappointed to report about the difficulty to find leopards. Now we have exciting news: The first month in 2017 brought us some fantastic leopard sightings. We even discovered a rarely seen leopard called “Munye”. Here is our January update from the bush.
